Week Ending 6.05.12

This might not have been the most amazing week for training but it was the most amazing week. 

As I mentioned last week the whanau are over from Australia so we have had a lot of time with them, eating good food, drinking fabulous wine and enjoying the good life.

Tuesday was an amazing day with Nina, Daena, Sid and Kezia on a ticky-tour of Kumeu and Waimauku catching a couple of vineyards on the way.  First stop was Kumeu River Estate where we spent a bit of time with Melba, owner and director of the vineyard tasting a wide tange of their offerings.  My personal favorite was probably the Melba’s Merlot, named after the afforementioned owner’s block, which had some interesting flavors in the background that I would expect to hold on the shelf for a few years.

The second winery on our jaunt was actually a distributor’s tasting room.  Constellation wines is based at Nobilo’s vineyard in Kumeu and has a massive range of the Constellation portfolio on offer.  Our guide had a list to work to and managed to keep us moving along at the same time as some Japanes tourists on the other side of the counter. 


By the time the tasting was finished, lunch hour had almost passed so it was time to find our spot for lunch.  And what a spot it was.  Hallertau Brewery boasts a menu created in conjunction with consultant chef Michael van de Elzen of ‘The Food Truck‘ fame and really impressed us on all counts.  Read my detailed experience here…


The next couple of days was spent working and trekking around meeting the family with a Mountain bike ride on Wednesday night. 

Friday morning shop ride was “brass monkeys” cold, cold, cold and thats all I can remember about that.  I am definitley getting myself kitted out with more winter gear. 

Friday was also a huge day for the family and the reason for the visit from Australia.  Graduation for Daena who got her masters with second class honours.  Well done Daena!  The celebration was followed by Dinner at our favorite Japanese Happy Japanese with friend and family.

Unfortunately I fell ill from a dodgy pie in the morning after my ride so I had to cut it short and it also put an end to the training and socialising for the week.

The rest of the weekend was spent working and spending some much loved time with family. Thank you for a great week.
